Tackling Fish Disease at AVC
Dr
Fred Kibenge, professor of
virology, was awarded an NSERC
Strategic Grant of $760,000 over
four years to fund a project for
the development of a vaccine and
diagnostic kits for infectious
salmon anemia(ISA). ISA is a
recently described disease of
farmed salmon that is estimated to
have resulted in losses exceeding
$40 million over the last 5-6
years in
Canada
. Development of accurate
diagnostic tests and an effective
vaccine for this serious problem
would greatly benefit the
aquaculture industry.
